IPF means continuously developing scars on the lungs. After diagnosis, people with the condition have an average life expectancy of three to five years.

COPD causes narrowed airways and often leaves people affected with a greatly reduced quality of life.

Blind Dog Day to celebrate 'special animals'

Amy Woodfield

BBC Local Live

Tomorrow is the first ever International Blind Dog Day.

The RSPCA is encouraging all dog owners with blind pets to "embrace the day" and celebrate their special and unique animals.

These three puppies are being cared for by the charity in Derby - Angel, Leo and Lexie have no sight at all.

Sadie Brice is a supporter engagement officer for the RSPCA in Derby and said their blindness is a result of breeding dogs with the "merle" gene.

She said these genetics increase the chances of a puppy being born with issues, such as being blind or deaf, by 25%.

The breeder of these puppies had eight in total and was unable to cope with the extra needs of the three that were blind.
