A 16-year-old has picked up his GCSE results - despite being injured in a hit-and-run just weeks before his exams.

AJ Allen was hit by a car driving at 40mph through Ilkeston's pedestrianised Market Place in April.

He was rushed to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, but after tests he was able to be discharged the next day with cuts and bruises.

He suffered trauma and memory loss but was back at Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise Academy within days to start revising for his exams.

Today he achieved the results he needed to get into Bilborough College in Nottingham, including a grade 6 in Maths, and four Bs in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Finance.

His mum, Lindsay, said: “The ambulance crew was saying he shouldn’t be here after being hit at that speed.

“Today was a very emotional day for us all and we’re all so pleased that he got the results he wanted so he can go to college and follow his dream of being a personal trainer.”

Man arrested after police chase crash death

A man has been arrested after a man died following a police chase in Derby earlier this week.

The crash happened on the A6 in Alvaston at 23:30 on Monday when a Vauxhall Corsa collided with the central reservation. It was being followed by a Derbyshire Police patrol car shortly before the crash.

The passenger, Jacob Morton, 27, died in the crash, while the driver was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre with serious injuries. He remains in a stable condition.

The arrested man, 25, has been detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The force has referred itself to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust said it had taken 83 of its lambs to Teversal Pastures in the county earlier this week to graze when the attack happened.

As a result the trust has closed the path, which isn't a public right of way, while the lambs graze to avoid another attack.

Hebridean sheep were until recently considered rare but their numbers have increased.

A four acre field of corn on Cropston Road was alight and spread to hedgerows. It's estimated 90% of the crop was damaged.

The fire service believes the cause of the fire to be "accidental ignition".

The Environment Agency is at the scene of the fire in a recycling centre in Derby.

It is working with the fire service to "assess environmental impacts and prevent contaminated fire water causing pollution".

Man who died in police chase crash named

A passenger who died in Derby after a car hit a central reservation and a lamp-post in a police chase has been named as Jacob Morton.

The 27-year-old, from the city, was a passenger in a Vauxhall Corsa that crashed on the A6 in Alvaston on Monday night. A Derbyshire Police patrol car had been following the Corsa shortly before the collision.

The driver, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

One witness said he heard a car "screaming past" his house.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) began an independent investigation into the circumstances and has appealed for witnesses.

The officer involved has provided an initial account and footage from the patrol vehicle has been obtained, an IPCC spokesman added.

Ian Shepherd, 51, of Clumber Street, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, had originally denied four counts of rape but changed his plea to guilty today at Nottingham Crown Court.

He was also given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will have to sign the sex offenders register for life.

Det Con Mary Foster, from Nottinghamshire Police, described Shepherd as a "very manipulative, evil, dishonest individual".

Man admits causing woman's death in crash

A man has pleaded guilty to causing the death of a 23-year-old woman from Lincolnshire in a car crash.

Dominique Wright was killed after the crash on Nottingham Road, Southwell, in October last year.

Today, Benjamin Hughes, 24, from Nottingham Road in Lowdham, admitted causing death by careless driving when over the prescribed limit.

He will be sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on 22 September.

Police are investigating claims of a sexual assault on a woman near Coalville.

It's alleged to have happened at about 17:00 yesterday in the Beveridge Lane and Rushby Road area of Ellistown.

A cordon is in place at the top and bottom of a footpath and also on Colonel Close while police complete a search of the area.

Police have said they want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time - especially dog walkers who may have seen something or anyone with CCTV footage covering the area.

WW1 Ypres bells on show at UK fair

Eight bells made in memory of First World War battles near Ypres are on show in the UK for the final time before being transported to the Belgian town.

The bells were made at the world famous John Taylor & Co in Loughborough and left the town on two World War One era lorries earlier this week.

The bells are now on show at the Great Dorset Steam Fair that is set to to attract up to 200,000 visitors over five days.

After the show, they will make their final journey to Ypres, where they will ring at St George's Memorial Church.

An ambulance driver, who was assaulted by a patient he was trying to take to hospital, has said the attack will stay with him for a long time.

Last month Ray Woolley was driving an emergency vehicle from Ashby to the Leicester Royal Infirmary when he had to pull over because the patient inside was assaulting his colleague.

The patient went on to "donkey-kick" a second person on the medial team and punch Mr Woolley in the side of the head.

The East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) driver said he was "petrified" at the time and that it still makes him feel "vulnerable".

EMAS added the man responsible for the attacks, Nicolas Frost, from Ellistown, was jailed for 26 weeks after admitting three counts of assault by beating.

A man was kicked in the face during an attempted stabbing at a park.

Derbyshire Police said two men from a group of 20 to 23 year olds approached the victim near the basketball courts on Derby's Arboretum Park on Saturday evening.

One of them attempted to stab the victim, who fell to the ground and received a kick to the face before responding with a kick of his own, which knocked the blade from the attacker's hand.

The man with the knife has been described as Asian, in his early 20s, 5ft 9ins, skinny and clean shaven. The other man is described as black, 20 to 22 years old, 5ft 9ins skinny and clean shaven. He was riding a black mountain bike with white writing on the frame.

Police are linking it with an incident that occurred at about the same time, in which a different man asked two people in the park to call the police after he'd been chased by a man with a knife.
