Man injured as car is stolen in Sheffield

Police say a man was hurt when he briefly got out of his Range Rover and it was stolen.

They were called to Burngreave this morning and say the driver briefly got out of the car and a man got into the vehicle and drove off down Spital Hill towards the Wicker. 

It was later found in Brunswick Road. 

A man and two women have been arrested in connection with the incident and are in custody.

Tommy Ward Rotherham murder case update

Detectives in South Yorkshire have made a fresh appeal for information on the death of Tommy Ward in Maltby.

His case has featured today on BBC One's Crimewatch Roadshow programme. 

The 80-year-old was brutally assaulted inside his home last October - he died in February from his injuries. His life savings of around £30,000 were stolen.

Chesterfield Football Club has announced that they've given a one-year deal with an option of a further year to former Sheffield United player Ched Evans.

The player faces a re-trial in October over a rape allegation after the original verdict was quashed.

School holidays could change in Sheffield

Parents in Sheffield are being asked whether they want to see a fixed Easter holiday. It would mean the first two full weeks of April would always be the Easter Holiday - regardless of when Easter itself falls. 

Sheffield City Council says the consultation is open until the 7 July.

Any changes would happen in the year 2017/18.

A woman found dead at a house in the Shiregreen area of Sheffield was Michelle Wright, 48, say police. 

She was found at a house in Nethershire Lane on Saturday night.

Officers are waiting for post-mortem examination results.

A 47-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder has since been bailed pending further inquiries.

'Consider two-wheel over four' urges Ride to Work Week campaign

We're being encouraged to use two wheels rather than four to get around.

The campaign hopes that people will realise the freedoms it says can be found in ditching car journeys when commuting. 

It says doing so will ease congestion and pollution and bring down fuel bills.

BreakingEx-Sheffield United's Ched Evans to sign for Chesterfield

Ched Evans, who faces a retrial over rape allegations in October, is set to join League One side Chesterfield, BBC Sport understands.

Former Wales striker Evans was jailed in 2012 for raping a 19-year-old girl, but had his conviction quashed by the Court of Appeal in April.

Crimewatch appeal over murder of man, 80, in Rotherham

Detectives investigating the murder of an 80-year-old man who died following a violent robbery at his home are appealing for witnesses on the BBC's Crimewatch Roadshow programme.

Tommy Ward's life savings were stolen during the attack, some £30,000.

A big development is taking shape in the centre of Sheffield.

A large tower block is part of the scheme just off the St Mary's Gate Roundabout in Sheffield, near Bramall Lane.

It will be a mix of residential, shopping and business - with a view to attracting Chinese investment to the area. 

It's being built in two phases, the first to be ready next year, the second phase will be complete a year later.

Sheffield boxer Kid Galahad says he's hungrier than ever to win a world title. The Super-bantamweight has been confirmed on the under card of the Fury versus Klitchko fight next month.
