HSBC's new office plan in Sheffield Retail Quarter

This is an artist's impression of HSBC's planned office in the £480m Sheffield Retail Quarter scheme.

Building work is due to get underway early next year and should be ready in Spring 2019.

The project was recently endorsed by planners and will be created between Wellington Street and Cambridge Street.

Travel news: A57 major delays

Police are warning of long delays because of a lorry fire on the A57.

A lane is closed and very slow traffic at Worksop Road in both directions between Sheffield and Todwick Roundabout.

Tributes to teacher who died after falling in Sheffield classroom

A school in Sheffield has paid tribute to one of its teachers who died following a classroom accident.

41 year old Lynsey Laycock fell last week at Forge Valley School

She died from medical complications after being taken to hospital. 

Her dedication and hard work helped improve the life chances of all the pupils who were fortunate to have her as a teacher. As a community we are devastated by this tragic death and our thoughts are with Mrs Haycock's family and friends during this very difficult time."

Sheffield teacher dies after classroom fall

A teacher has died after breaking her leg in a fall in her classroom

Lynsey Haycock, 41, a science and health teacher, fell at Forge Valley School on Thursday.

She was taken to hospital but died the next day as a result of medical complications.

Man's death sparks murder investigation in Sheffield

A murder investigation is under way in Sheffield after the death of a man who was found with a serious head injury in the city at the end of last month. 

The victim was discovered in Devonshire Green at about 15:45 on Wednesday 31 August. 

He died in hospital last night.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place later to determine the exact cause of the man's death.

The investigation surrounding what happened to the victim remains ongoing ...We remain keen to hear from anyone who was in the West One Plaza and Devonshire Green area on the afternoon of Wednesday 31 August."

Jackie Kenning fights back the tears as she speaks about her friend, Jo.

Jo succumbed to cancer earlier this year aged 37, just a few days before she was due to get married.

Jackie, from Goldthorpe, tells us she's putting on a fundraising ball in Jo's memory later this month and to raise money for charity.

Cancer has also touched Jackie's life directly, she's had breast cancer:

Launch of new road race in Sheffield

Today's seen the official launch today of a new 10km road race through Sheffield. 

It takes place on a new route through the heart of the city and is being organised by the people behind Sheffield's half marathon. 

The new Asda Foundation Sheffield 10K will take place on Sunday the 30th October.

'It's his time now' - Kell Brook's trainer on his major upcoming fight

Kell Brook will conduct a public workout in Covent Garden today, ahead of his big fight against Gennady Golovkin on Saturday. 

Brook is the IBF welterweight champion but will move up two weight divisions to fight for Golovkin's WBA, WBC and IBF world middleweight titles.  

Brook's trainer Dominic Ingle says the Sheffielder has been waiting for this bout for a lifetime.

He adds that there was no chance of him passing on the opportunity to face the world's number one fighter.

Residents vow to reclaim park from yobs in Sheffield

'We'd like our park back, pretty please'

Residents around Sharrow in Sheffield have staged a peaceful protest to reclaim Mount Pleasant from drug users and anti-social behaviour.

They say their homes and streets are blighted by yobs who throw bricks into gardens, shout abuse and make threats.   

South Yorkshire Police say say they've been working with the community in Sharrow to tackle the problems.

Racial abuse on bus - appeal in Sheffield

A woman's reported being the target of racial abuse on a bus in Sheffield.

She got on a number 88 at the Northern General Hospital and says a woman with three children began a verbal assault.

Sport: Owls could go Dutch for their next signing

Sheffield Wednesday are close to finalising the signing of Dutch defender Urby Emmanuelson. 

The 30-year-old left back counts Ajax, AC Milan and Fulham as former clubs. 

Emmanuelson has also been capped 17 times by the Netherlands.

MPs under increasing fear of attack

It's almost twelve weeks since the murder of Yorkshire MP Jo Cox in Birstall. She was shot and stabbed.

The BBC in Yorkshire has surveyed Mp's in the region; most of those who responded said the level of threat against them had noticeably increased in the past 12 months.

The Labour MP for Bassetlaw John Mann says he's received three death threats in the past eighteen months. 

It's been three months since the murder of the MP Jo Cox in Birstall. She was shot and stabbed. 

John Mann says he's had intruders at his home; air rifles fired through the window, and human excrement left on his doorstep.

He's been speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield's Toby Foster:

Sports Direct makes contracts pledge to staff

The retailer Sports Direct is to put all its staff on guaranteed hours contracts -- after strong criticism of working practices at its main distribution centre. The main base is at Shirebrook in North Derbyshire. 

The company has apologised for serious shortcomings identified in an independent review. 

All staff will be paid above the National minimum wage.
