Leiston transgender woman speaks out, in the hope of helping others

A transgender woman, from Leiston, says she wants to highlight the difficulties she's experienced in her journey to become a woman in the hope it helps others.

Jennifer Jo Lees, who used to be Mark, has secretly dressed as a woman in the past, but gave up when her family found out.

She says: "I got loads of stick and grief in Leiston. I was taunted, had my name called out to me in the street, really making my life a hell."  She's now been living full-time as a woman for two weeks.

Communities secretary says 'devolution won't be forced on anyone'

East Anglian devolution will not be forced on anyone who doesn't want it, according to Communities and Local Government Secretary Greg Clark who has been visiting the region today.

But Mr Clark, who was looking at proposals for a new garden town for Wisbech, also suggested the scheme, which has a lot of local support, would happen more quickly if devolution was in place.

His plans to give Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire extra powers and a directly elected mayor have come in for criticism since they were announced a fortnight ago.  

Cap on Broads windpump taken off for repairs

The cap on Horsey windpump has been successfully removed, despite blustery conditions earlier, and will now be sent to a millwright in Suffolk for repair.

The pump, owned by the National Trust, was built in 1912 to help drain land near the Norfolk Broads. 

Harsh weather and water leaks have caused timber to rot on the 15m (49ft) high landmark's cap and beams. The sails were removed two years ago.

Motorcyclist named following fatal Ipswich collision

The motorcyclist who died following a collision in Ipswich yesterday has been named as Duane Cook, 42, of Kings Way in the town.

Police were called at about 16:15 to reports of a collision between a Yamaha motorcycle and a Honda car.

Despite efforts to save Mr Cook, he died at the scene.

Man has skull fractured in Stowmarket assault

A man has been left with a fractured skull as well as swelling and bruising to his face following an assault in Stowmarket on Monday night, Suffolk Police says.

The 21-year-old was assaulted by two males in an alleyway off Needham Road, between 20:50 and 22:30. It's thought he was knocked unconscious and when he came round, his bag containing a phone, wallet and other items was missing.

He was taken to Ipswich Hospital where he was x-rayed and treated for his injuries.

Mr Sutton has said he won't be standing for "very good personal reasons".

Travel: Recovery work continues on A12 at Wrentham

There are still delays in both directions on the A12 at Wrentham between Guildhall Lane and Wood Lane as recovery work continues following an earlier accident between a double-decker bus and a van.

The driver of the van has been airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital  with "critical" injuries.

Bru injury doubt for Ipswich Town trip to Wolves

Ipswich Town midfielder and Mauritius international Kevin Bru is an injury doubt for Saturday's trip to Wolves after he missed yesterday's 5-0 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier loss to Rwanda.

Fuchsia Lane fatal fire: Barking dog alerts neighbour to incident

Suffolk Fire Service (SFRS) say they were alerted to the fatal fire in Fuchsia Lane in Ipswich by a neighbour, who said her dog was barking.

Ian Bowell, area commander for SFRS, said: "Her dog raised the alarm to the lady next door who saw flames coming from the window and called us."

A man in his eighties died in the blaze. Another male resident of the bungalow is in a "serious condition" at Chelmsford Hospital.

Man in his 80s dies in Fuchsia Lane fire

More now on the news that an elderly man had died in a fire at Fuchsia Lane in Ipswich this morning.

The man was in his eighties, Suffolk Police said. They also confirmed other male resident at the bungalow has been transferred to Chelmsford Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

Police are carrying out an investigation alongside Suffolk Fire and Rescue to determine the cause of the fire. 

No further information will be available until the man has been formally identified, police said.

Van driver critical after A12 bus crash

A van driver has been air-lifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital with "serious" injuries following a collision with a bus on the A12 at Wrentham earlier today.

The driver of the bus, which was not carrying any passengers, is being treated at the James Paget Hospital.

Police expect the road to remain closed until at least 13:30.

Motorcyclist dies following collision on Felixstowe Road

A male motorcyclist has died following a collision with a car on Felixstowe Road, Ipswich, yesterday afternoon, Suffolk Police say.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

It's same road where a biker and his pillion passenger were seriously injured on Sunday night after the driver lost control of the bike.

The driver of a van injured in collision with a bus on the A12 at Wrentham earlier is in "critical condition" at the James Paget Hospital. 

It's understood he may be airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridgeshire later.

Two people have been taken to hospital after a fire in a bungalow in Ipswich in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters, police and paramedics were called to Fucshia Lane off Foxhall Road shortly after 01:00. 

Suffolk Fire and Rescue will return to the scene later to carry out an investigation.
