Ipswich Town forward David McGoldrick says his friend and Leicester City captain Wes Morgan should be seen as an inspiration by Championship footballers.

The defender is just three wins away from lifting the Premier League trophy, despite having not kicked a ball in the top flight until he was 30. 

"When were were at Forest together he was the best defender in the league by a mile," said McGoldrick. "He's a top centre half who should have been playing in the Premier League a long time ago."

Air ambulance in attendance at B1113 crash

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, are at the scene of a serious crash on the B1113 at Stowmarket.

Police say they were called at about 16:30 to reports of a collision between two vehicles.

The road is closed at the junction of the B1113 and Newton Road.

Dettori wins third Nell Gwyn Stakes in a row

Frankie Dettori has succeeded in his ambition to win the Nell Gwyn Stakes in three successive years, by taking first place on Nathra at the first day of the Craven Meeting this afternoon.

The 5-4 favourite was trained by Newmarket's John Gosden.

As we mentioned earlier, the arrival of F-22 Raptors at RAF Lakenheath has caused a certain amount of interest among enthusiasts keen to take a look.

Here are a few facts about the aircraft:

  • It's a single-seater, twin engine, all-weather aircraft developed for the United States Air Force
  • It's 62ft (18.90m) long, with a wingspan of 44.5ft (13.56m)
  • Top speed is a reported 2,410km/h (1,497mph), with a cruising speed of 1,963km/h (1,219mph)

Police renew appeal for information about Haverhill arson

Further to the story we brought you last week about three cars and houses that were damaged by an arson attack in Haverhill, police have released a photograph of the car they believe was deliberately set alight in the incident.

They say the blaze from this Citroen C3 then spread to a Jeep Cherokee and a Citroen Berlingo which were parked alongside.

The fire also damaged the front of three houses, with the heat causing windows in the properties to crack.

Arrival of F-22s at RAF Lakenheath brings 200 cars to viewing area

Since we brought you news earlier that a number of F-22 Raptors from the Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida have started to arrive at RAF Lakenheath for training, we've heard about 200 cars have gone to the viewing area to see if they can spot the planes.

Anne Deacon was among the enthusiasts - she told us there were "loads and loads of cars" waiting.

"We come up here once a week and we don't know what we're going to see until we get here, so we're still waiting and waiting to see what's going to happen," she said.

Dettori targets hat-trick at Newmarket's Craven meeting

Traditionally seen as the beginning of the flat racing season, Newmarket's Craven meeting is under way at the Rowley Mile course.

Local trainer John Gosden saddles the favourite in the featured Nell Gwyn Stakes at 16:30, with Frankie Dettori riding Nathra.

Dettori has won the race on four previous occasions, including in 2014 on board Sandiva and last year with Osaila.

Suffolk MP defends government's £9m EU pamphlet

The Suffolk Coastal MP has defended the pamphlet produced by the government ahead of this summer's referendum, saying it's "directing people towards the information on which to make a judgement".

Therese Coffey was speaking after the leader of UKIP at Suffolk County Council, Bill Mountford, described the publication, which has cost £9m to produce and distribute, as "one-sided and a waste of money".

She said: "There will be other information coming out from both sides of the argument in future but there will be very few documents ever produced in this referendum which goes - on one hand this, on one hand the other."

The Republic of Ireland international has denied speculation that his head has been turned by recent interest from Premier League leaders Leicester City. 

"They wanted me two years ago and Arsenal wanted me when I was 16, and I'm not still thinking about that!" McGoldrick said. "People make up rumours all the time but I am committed to Ipswich."

Their band Love Nor Money were in excellent form when they last teamed up with BBC Introducing in Suffolk, and Bess told us that they cannot wait to perform on home soil.

"Being from Suffolk, we have always wanted to play Latitude," she said. "It's going to be great to play our new music and connect with the crowd."

Police seek witnesses to yesterday's lorry crash on the A14

Witnesses to yesterday's crash between two lorries on the A14 at Stowmarket are being asked to contact Suffolk Police.

One of the drivers, a 40-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serous injuries, including broken ribs, a dislocated wrist and a fractured foot.

The other driver, also a 40-year-old man, sustained whiplash-type neck and back pain.

Two former Great British Bake Off stars will perform cooking demonstrations at a festival in Suffolk in July.

Newmarket's 350th anniversary: Free entry for locals

As Newmarket celebrates the 350th anniversary of racing in the town, the racecourse is today offering free entry for all Suffolk and Cambridgeshire residents who pre-registered, as the three-day Craven Meeting gets under way.

The Jockey Club says the anniversary will be celebrated in different ways during the 39 fixtures staged at the Rowley Mile and the July courses throughout the year.

The main launch is taking place at the Guineas Festival, which begins on 30 April.

Good news for rail passengers as weekend engineering works are completed

Network Rail is thanking passengers for their patience as 10 weeks of weekend engineering works are brought to a close.

Commuters have been facing delays and rail replacement services on the Suffolk mainline while engineers replaced track and old overhead wiring between Liverpool Street and Ingatestone. 

The company says the repairs should mean fewer planned works on the route over the coming weeks and months.

Latitude pick 'so sweet' for Ipswich hip hop producer

Not often is Ryan Gallant lost for words, but today the hip hop producer was practically speechless when he was told that he will perform at this year's Latitude Festival.

Known in local music circles as Muckaniks, the 21-year-old will play to his largest crowd to date when he opens up the Lake Stage on Saturday 16 July.

"This is so sweet," Ryan told BBC Introducing in Suffolk this morning. "I still don't know what to say. I am standing on my bed right now!"

A Felixstowe woman who survived the Tunisia beach terror attack in June last year hopes a commemoration service in London today will bring her some closure.

Allison Heathcote, whose husband Philip died in the attack, says she's put her anger behind her.

"I feel I need to move on because I don't think it's going to do me any good getting angry," she told BBC Suffolk. "I just need to progress."

Travel: A14 reopens overnight

The A14 reopened early this morning, more than 12 hours after being closed following a crash between two lorries near J50 at Stowmarket.

The central reservation had been badly damaged in the crash, which resulted in one man being airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital, and another man taken by land ambulance to Ipswich Hospital.
