Farmers' warning to dog owners

Jon Hunt

Reporter, BBC South East Today

Dog owners are being warned they could be prosecuted and their pets shot dead if they allow them to chase sheep.

It's lambing season, and farmers across the South East are already reporting cases of sheep worrying.

One Sussex farmer is counting the cost of an attack which saw 14 of his ewes killed.

RMT strike: Analysis by BBC Transport Correspondent

Richard Westcott

Transport correspondent

A Southern train
PA

It's the South and the North today, but could this dispute keep spreading across England?

The government's made it clear that it wants an expansion of "driver-only-operated" trains and that puts it at loggerheads with the unions.

The Department for Transport talks about introducing them in the next two franchises about to be awarded, South Western and West Midlands.

The unions say it's a long-term ploy to get rid of all train guards and save money - they claim it puts passenger safety at risk.

But rail bosses argue it's about modernising the service, freeing up the second on-board person to deal with passengers rather than closing the train doors.

Handing all the safety jobs to the driver means you don't HAVE to have two people on every train before it can leave the station. That would shrink the power of the RMT, because more trains would be able to run if their guards went on strike in the future.

Death of Footballers Wives' actor John Forgeham 'shock to all'

John Forgeham
PA

The death of Footballers' Wives star John Forgeham has been described as a "shock to all of us" by his friend, producer Simon Golding.

The 75-year-old, best known for his roles in the ITV drama and The Italian Job, died on Friday.

His daughter Jonesta paid tribute to a "wonderful and charismatic man"  in the Daily Mirror .

She said: "He would want to be remembered as this wonderful actor. He lived and breathed acting."

'The RMT action continues to hold firm'

Claire Cottingham

BBC Live reporter

The RMT union has released this statement as its members take industrial action on the Southern network, as well as on Northern and Merseyrail.

The RMT guards' and drivers' action continues to hold firm in the fight for rail safety nearly a year on‎.

RMT members on Southern have shown incredible courage and resilience in the year-long battle to put passenger safety before private profits‎.

It is about time Southern/GTR got out of the bunker and got back round the t‎able with the union in serious and meaningful talks.

First turbines installed at wind farm

Claire Cottingham

BBC Live reporter

The first turbines have been installed as part of the Rampion wind farm being built off the Sussex coast.

The project is due to be completed in 2018.

The company behind it claims when finished, the offshore wind farm will provide enough electricity to supply nearly 350,000 homes a year - equivalent to around half the homes in Sussex.

A Southern train
EPA

Today is the 30th day of strike action on Southern rail by the RMT union.

But with the train company saying the majority of services will be running, will commuters notice a difference?

During the last walkout on 22 February, Southern said it ran 87% of its services.

The company says "most services will operate to the normal timetable".

But the RMT union says the company is "spinning fantasies" about the impact of their industrial action.

We'll bring you details of the services that are being affected throughout the day.

Meanwhile, guards and drivers working for Merseyrail and Northern are taking action over similar DOO proposals.
