Man admits police chase crash death

A driver has admitted causing the death of a 78-year-old man he struck while speeding away from police. 

Jonos Sasvari, of Little Preston Street, Brighton, died in Old Steine, near the seafront, on 10 January. 

Gavin Dawes, 33, of Phoenix Rise, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of dangerous driving at Hove Trial Centre.

He was remanded in custody until sentencing on 16 June.

On this date he will also be sentenced for a previous dangerous driving incident.

Sussex skipper Luke Wright says he's looking to make a concerted effort to secure promotion back to Division One of the Championship. 

The all-rounder missed the start of last season through injury.

After a £1.2m refurbishment, Southover Grange in Lewes will re-open its doors on Monday for the registration of births and deaths.

The Grade I listed 16th century manor house will also be available to host weddings from the end of the month.

Man treated for burns after flat fire

An investigation has been launched after a man suffered burns in a flat fire.

Firefighters were called to the ground-floor flat at Devonshire Court in The Drive, Hove, just before 19:00 BST yesterday.

They dealt with a fire in the kitchen and the man was given treatment at the scene.

Firefighters were at the scene for about an hour. 

A family-run music shop has been 'devastated' by a spate of break-ins.

Brighton and Hove Albion will be hoping to continue their promotion push as they travel to Loftus Road tonight.

Centre-half Lewis Dunk could keep his place in the Brighton squad after recovering from illness.

Full-backs Sebastian Pocognoli and Liam Rosenior are available after injury, but striker Sam Baldock is likely to remain out with a hamstring problem.

The Seagulls would return to the top of the Championship table with victory on Friday night.
