Rise in number of dog attacks

There's been a huge rise in the number of people attacked by dogs in the South East.

New figures obtained by BBC South East show an increase of more than 60% in the past three years and last year there were more than 2,000 attacks on people in Sussex, Kent and Surrey.

It comes as a Sussex woman has told of the moment she was mauled by a dog and described it as the most terrifying moment of her life.

Kelly Stevens was bitten by a pitbull-cross in Eastbourne in 2014 and needed plastic surgery.

Operations have been scaled down after a huge fire at an industrial estate in Hailsham overnight.

About 30 firefighters were called to Diplocks Way just before 22:00 BST yesterday.

The fire was in a two-storey industrial unit containing a large amount of wood.

Three fire engines remain at the scene.

People living nearby have been urged to keep doors and windows closed.

A girl reported missing from Maidstone may be in Brighton.

Chloe Henderson-Smith was last seen in Tonbridge Road at about 07:30 BST on Friday 29 July.

The 16-year-old is 5ft 4in and slim.

She may be wearing a red or purple coat with white stripes on the sleeves, red and navy patterned trousers and white trainers.

Police say she also has links to Winchester.

The fire is in a two-storey building used for storage.

Nobody has been hurt.
