Insufficient evidence in police bribery case

West Yorkshire Police's chief constable will not face charges in connection with a

bribery and misconduct investigation in Northern Ireland.

Mark Gilmore was suspended in June 2014 in connection with an investigation into the awarding of vehicle contracts. The Public Prosecution Service said there was insufficient evidence to proceed.

Anti-drugs group calls for tougher laws

A Belfast based anti-drugs group has called for

tougher laws to be introduced to deal with the sale of "legal high" drugs following the death of 17-year-old Adam Owens in Newtownards, County Down, on Monday.


Mothers Against Drugs said it is concerned about how effective the law is at tackling legal highs.

A group of young men have been selected to represent Northern Ireland at the 2015 Homeless World Cup.

The eight young men, who will represent Northern Ireland, have all experienced homelessness and were selected from 5-a-side leagues, run weekly by the charity, Street Soccer NI, across Northern Ireland.

This is the house near Newtownbutler in County Fermanagh where a woman was found with fatal injuries on Sunday. The property has now been boarded up.

A man has been arrested and released on bail following the woman's death and a post mortem examination will take place.

Handgun recovered from search:


A suspected handgun was recovered from police searches at proprieties in north and west Belfast today as part of serious crime investigations.

No arrests have been made yet in relation to the discovery.

Hate crime arrests

Police in Belfast have arrested four men and a woman in relation to a number of separate hate crime incidents across the city in the last 24 hours.


One of those arrested includes a 70-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of threats to kill and possession of an offensive weapon in the Westland Road area of North Belfast on Tuesday. He will be charged in relation to the incident.

Mass of hope for missing student

The Bishop of Cloyne, County Cork, William Crean will be offering up prayers this evening for the safe return of Karen Buckley, the Irish student who was seen leaving a nightclub in Glasgow with a man in the early hours of Sunday.

Estate agent bankruptcy annulled

A bankruptcy order made against one of Northern Ireland's best known estate agents has been annulled.

Gerry O'Connor's insolvency was rescinded at the High Court in Belfast after he entered into a voluntary arrangement with his creditors.

Law Society responds

The Law Society of Northern Ireland says that the publication of

payments made to 100 solicitor firms providing legal aid for the year 2013/14 is "a distraction from the real issues at stake".

A Law Society spokesperson said: "The value of legal aid cannot be determined simply in monetary terms as demonstrated by the 500 solicitor firms who remain committed to ensuring that the most vulnerable and disadvantaged members of our community have access to justice".

SDLP launches manifesto

The SDLP has launched its

Westminster election manifesto called Prosperity Not Austerity.

The party leader, Dr Alasdair McDonnell, said the party wants to agree up-front investment in roads, schools, universities and hospitals as part of a plan to "wean society off subsidies".

Dentist sanction quashed

A senior dentist who worked as a consultant at the Royal Victoria Hospital's School of Dentistry has had

a decision to strike him from the dental register quashed.

Last year, the General Dental Council (GDC) found Professor Philip Lamey guilty of more than 100 charges of misconduct and removed him from the register. It's emerged that the High Court quashed the sanction, but ordered that he remains suspended until a review of the case in August.

Almac Group. headquartered in Craigavon, has announced plans to grow its custom peptide manufacturing business in Scotland with a move to bigger premises in Edinburgh.

Titanic Memorial

A special ceremony marking the 103rd anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic was held in the City Hall Titanic Memorial Garden today.

At 12:00 Aidan McMichael, Chairman of the Belfast Titanic Society led a wreath laying ceremony and a minute's silence remembering the 1,512 people who lost their lives on that fatal night of 15 April 1912.

The temperatures will fall away quickly tonight, meaning a chilly start to tomorrow morning but there'll be lots of blue sky and sunshine around during the day tomorrow.

The manager of a sportswear company says he has lost up to £10,000 worth of stock after a burglary in his Belfast premises.


John Anderson says staff at Teamwear Ireland arrived at work today to find the front doors had been destroyed by thieves who stole samples, computers and cash.

Curistan accuses Anglo of fraud

Belfast property developer Peter Curistan is alleging fraud as part of a renewed legal action against the former Anglo Irish Bank, the High Court heard today.

The businessman, who built the Odyssey entertainment complex in the city, is also suing for breach of duty and negligence over the process to find a buyer for his long-term lease on the venue.

Over £300k in E.coli compensation:

More than £300,000 has been paid out to victims of what has been described at the time as one of the worst outbreaks of E.coli food poisoning in Northern Ireland.

Belfast Crown Court heard that compensation was paid to around 80 people by Moviehouse Cinema Limited, which owned the now closed Flicks Restaurant, after

two outbreaks in 2012.

Shots fired in Lurgan:


Shots were fired at house in the Derry Street area of Lurgan, County Armagh just after midnight.

A 61 year-old man was at home at the time and was uninjured but damage was caused to a front window and door of the property as a result of the incident.

Viable device at Strabane security alert

A suspicious object found in a rural area near Strabane last night was a viable explosive device. It was discovered by a man walking at Ballyheather Road at about 20:00.

Bomb robot

Following an operation by bomb disposal officers and a search of the area, the alert has now ended and roads have re-opened.

Two men, one armed with a knife and the other a baseball bat entered the house in the Camgart Road area of Clabby around 11.30 last night.
