Why France is rediscovering a passion for tea

20 April 2014 Last updated at 00:10 BST

France has been rediscovering a passion for tea, and there has been a recent boom in high-quality tea sales.

French tea brands are also expanding rapidly around the world.

In fact, although it may be more well-known for coffee-drinking, France has an old tradition of tea-drinking, but in past it was the preserve of the wealthy and the aristocracy.

Perhaps the best-known French tea company is Mariage Freres which has been operating out of the Marais district of Paris since 1854, although its origins are much older.

Franck Desains, the director of Mariage Freres, spoke to BBC News about why tea is catching on again.
