'It feels amazing' - Labour's James Frith celebrates Bury North win

Labour are celebrating after taking Bury North from the Conservatives.- their number one target in the North West.

Labour's James Frith won with a majority of 4,375 over Tory candidate David Nuttall, who had held the seat since 2010 - a swing of 5%.

Liberal Democrat Richard Baum came third with 912 votes. There was a 70.9% turnout.

Since its creation in 1983, the seat of Bury North has always returned a member of the party that went on to govern.

Mr Frith said: "I am absolutely determined to do right by the people of Bury North... there is an appetite for a member of parliament to be active, visible, and energetic."

Only four seats change hands in the North West

Well after all that, very few seats have changed hands here in the North West of England.

The biggest changes came in Cheshire where Labour gained two seats, taking Warrington South and Weaver Vale from the Conservatives.

In Greater Manchester they also took the highly marginal Bury North from the Tories.

Over in Merseyside the Lib Dems lost their only seat when Southport turned Tory blue.

And it's a case of "as you were" across the whole of Lancashire.

'Record numbers of young people voted Labour'

Young people in record numbers have gone out to vote Labour, claims the party's MP Ivan Lewis who held on in Bury South.

It comes as Labour candidate Richard Frith gained Bury North from the Tories.

Labour has so far more won more seats that the Conservatives, with 188 to 171.
