The City of Chester seat was the Conservatives' number one target constituency at this general election.

Labour incumbent Chris Matheson was defending a tiny majority of 93 but, on a swing of 8% from the Tories, he has increased that to 9,176.

Chester incumbent 'taking nothing for granted'

Chester's incumbent Labour candidate Chris Matheson (defending his party's smallest majority of 93) says the exit poll is "startling", but is "taking nothing for granted".

He says things are so close in his seat that "any slight swing away from Labour would give us difficulties".
