Halal school meat decision to be made by councillors

A vote on stopping the supply of un-stunned halal meat to schools will go before councillors in Lancashire in October.

PA

The proposal to put it to a vote was presented in a closed-door council meeting yesterday.

Un-stunned halal meat is currently supplied to 12,000 pupils across 27 schools in Blackburn, Nelson, Burnley, Rawtenstall, Hyndburn and Preston.

Critics say the practice of slaughtering animals while fully conscious is cruel and causes immense suffering.
