Esther McVey, the former minister and Wirral West MP, is on the Conservatives' shortlist for the Tatton constituency, a seat which has been held by George Osborne since 2001.
Ms McVey represented Wirral West from 2010 to 2015 and also served as Minister of State for Employment.
The two other candidates on the Tory list are Katherine Fletcher, who works for the former Chancellor of the Exchequer's Northern Powerhouse Partnership think tank, and Alex Williams, the deputy leader of Trafford Council.
The selection meeting will be held tomorrow night.
Labour, the Liberal Democrats and UKIP are yet to announce their candidates for the seat, while Nigel Hennerley will stand for the Green Party.
