Busy junction works due to start in Sunderland

A £150,000 scheme to improve one of Sunderland's busiest road junctions is due to start.

Works at the junction of Durham, Premier and Springwell roads will begin on Wednesday.

It includes replacing all existing traffic signals and refurbishing pedestrian islands. It is expected to take about six weeks to complete.

Sunderland Council warned there could be delays due to lane closures and temporary traffic signals.

The council said the work aimed to improve traffic flows.

The junction is one of Sunderland's busiest routes both into and out of the city centre and also for cross-city traffic.
