Solar eclipse witnessed in America, Europe and Africa

Stargazers and tourists across the world have witnessed a rare solar eclipse - in which a view of the sun is totally or partially blocked by the moon.

The hybrid solar eclipse - which only occurs once in several decades - was first visible in the United States and moved east towards Africa.
