E3: WWI letters inspire Valiant Hearts video game

How do you generate a level of interest outside the core gaming community?

That is the question French games developer Ubisoft attempts to answer with a new cartoon-stylised puzzle adventure game set against the backdrop of World War One, which was inspired by real-life letters sent home by the troops.

In Valiant Hearts: The Great War, players follow four characters and a dog as they struggle to deal with the emotional toll wrought by the conflict.

The BBC's North America technology correspondent Richard Taylor found out what inspired the game when he spoke to Ubisoft community manager Kevin Irwin at the E3 expo in Los Angeles.
