A Kent vineyard has secured a deal with one of the world’s largest alcohol buyers and will be sending its sparkling wine to Canada.

The contract for Hush Heath Estate in Tonbridge came as Prime Minister Theresa May met businesses and investors in Ottawa on Monday during a trip to strengthen trade ties.

The family-owned winery's Balfour 1503 Classic Cuvée achieved a listing with the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) through its Vintages Classics Programme, which picks out the world's greatest fine wines and premium spirits and sells them on in Canada.

It is the first English Sparkling Wine selected for the programme.

The news that Hush Heath Estate will be supplying to Canadian consumers is hugely welcome and they will be flying the flag for the high-quality of wine being produced in Britain."
