Aung San Suu Kyi honour "not under discussion"

Aung San Suu Kyi
Aung San Suu Kyi read philosophy, politics and economics at St Hugh's College Oxford in the 1960s.

The University of Oxford says it is not currently considering the status of Aung San Suu Kyi's honorary degree.

The de-facto leader of Myanmar received the honour in 2012 but is facing mounting international pressure for her handling of violence in Rakhine state and the Rohingya refugee crisis.

The status of the honourary degree "is not currently under discussion", a spokesperson for the university said.

The university added it hoped the Myanmar's administration can "eliminate discrimination and oppression and demonstrate to the world that Myanmar values the lives of all its citizens".
