British boy dies after being buried by snowplough

A five-year-old British boy has died after he was buried by a snowplough in a Spanish ski resort.

It is thought the child, named locally as Federico Nicholls Lopez, from Islington, north London, was covered by snow as he played by a ski lift.

The incident happened in Baqueira Beret, in the Pyrenees, on 25 February, but he died in hospital in the French city of Toulouse on Tuesday.

The Foreign Office confirmed that it was aware of the boy's death.

According to Spanish media, magistrates are considering whether to bring charges against the driver.

The resort's director Roberto Buil said: "We would like to express our condolences to the family and will give them all the support we can following this tragic accident."

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We can confirm the death of a five-year-old boy in hospital in Toulouse on 8 March."
