Two British students have been raped while camping on a beach in St Lucia.

The women, said to be in their 30s, were attacked by six masked men on 10 May.

They were on an environmental expedition in the north east of the Caribbean island that required them to camp on location.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: "We can confirm an incident involving two British nationals in St Lucia. We have offered consular assistance."

The advice on the Foreign Office website for people travelling to St Lucia is to "avoid walking alone in isolated areas, including beaches, after dark, and only camp out in large groups".
