West Dulwich shooting kills 36-year-old man

A 36-year-old man has died after being found with gun injuries in south London.

Police were called shortly before 0100 BST on Thursday following reports of shots being fired in the the Clive Road and Berry Lane areas of West Dulwich.

Officers found a man lying in the street. They tried to resuscitate him but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Metropolitan Police detectives have begun a murder inquiry.

They know the man's identity but his next of kin are yet to be informed.

A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course, police said.

Det Ch Insp Neil Hutchison, who is leading the investigation on behalf of Trident, which investigates gun crime in London's black communities, appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

"Did you see anyone behaving suspiciously in the area between the hours of 2300 BST and 0100 BST?" he said.

"This is a quiet residential area and someone may have seen or heard something that will assist us in this investigation."
