BBC crisis: Maria Miller and Harriet Harman on DG payout

Help

Culture Secretary Maria Miller says the circumstances of George Entwistle's resignation "make it hard to justify the level of severance money that's been agreed".

Speaking in a Commons statement, she said the BBC Trust had a responsibility to ensure "value for money for the licence fee payer".

Labour's Harriet Harman said it was right for Mr Entwistle to resign, but that "the next victim of this crisis must not be the independence of the BBC".
