Sapphire unit failings: Attacker 'given a green light'

Help

Southwark Sapphire specialist rape unit "failed to believe victims" and "encouraged" them to withdraw allegations to make its detection rates look better, an IPCC report has said.

The Metropolitan Police says substantial changes have been made in the way the force deals with allegations of rape.

But Fiona, who made a rape complaint to the force in 2011, says she feels no attempt was made to bring her alleged attacker to justice.

Speaking to the BBC, she said "the person who did this... knows he has a green light to carry on attacking women."
