Lil Poopy in exploitation probe

The 9 year-old Hispanic rap artist Lil Poopy has been causing controversy over the adult content of his songs. The police say he may be being exploited and have launched an investigation.

The Today programme's Justin Webb spoke to Joseph Krowski, Lil Poopy's lawyer, who described the child star as "your typical thriving, flourishing 9 year-old child", adding that he is a "very respectful young man" and doesn't use the language and behaviour seen in his videos in every day life.

When questioned about some of the behaviour in the videos, such as slapping women's bottoms, Mr Krowski said that it is "important to distinguish entertainment from reality" and that it is "no different to what other child actors do".

Mr Krowski doesn't think that the investigation will lead to anything, saying that there is "certainly a double standard" between white and non-white child stars.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Saturday 2 March 2013.
