Cardinal O'Brien's resignation 'a blow to church credibility'
The acting leader of Roman Catholics in Scotland has acknowledged that the credibility and moral authority of the church have been seriously damaged by the resignation of Cardinal Keith O'Brien.
The cardinal has now admitted inappropriate sexual conduct and the Vatican is to launch its own inquiry.
Archbishop Philip Tartaglia said it was a sad moment for the Roman Catholic Church, but he expressed hope that the election of a new Pope in the coming weeks would change things.
