The GMB and Unite unions say the strike is in protest at the company's pay offer of 8p extra an hour

Cleaning and catering staff at RAF Valley on Anglesey are holding a one-day strike over pay.

Around 50 staff of contractor ISS are to join the dispute affecting eight sites in England and Wales.

The GMB and Unite unions say the strike is in protest at the company's pay offer of 8p extra an hour.

The company says the offer is equivalent to pay increases elsewhere in the RAF and public sector in general.

It said it does not believe the strike will affect the smooth running of the services which it provides at the bases.

ISS also has staff at RAF training centres at Llanrwst, Conwy county, and Fairbourne, Gwynedd, though disruption there is likely to be minimal.

The unions have 240 members employed by ISS across the eight bases, which include three in Shropshire and two in Lincolnshire.
