Station safety campaign launched by Network Rail
Rail bosses have launched a safety campaign after 1,600 people were hurt in slips, trips and falls in the past year at Britain's biggest stations.
Network Rail said many incidents occurred after an evening of drinking, and urged passengers to take care.
Leeds station had the most incidents followed by Paddington and Liverpool Street, both in London.
The campaign includes posters at Network Rail's 17 stations and a video on YouTube and on screens at stations.
'Alcohol a factor'
Incidents happened as people fell on steps and escalators, over luggage and even off platforms.
There was one death, 51 broken bones, 19 dislocations, five concussions and dozens of cuts and bruises.
Robin Gisby, network operations managing director for Network Rail, said: "We do everything we can to make moving around our stations as easy and safe as possible but our teams deal with far too many people who have injured themselves where it appears alcohol has been a factor."
Deputy Chief Constable Paul Crowther, of British Transport Police, said drinking alcohol can impair a person's judgment and co-ordination.
He said: "Encouraging passengers to be more aware of their surroundings, particularly when they have had a drink, and to be alert to the inherent dangers that exist in stations will, we hope, reduce avoidable slips and falls across the network."
In December, Network Rail released three videos of people suffering embarrassing falls at railway stations to highlight the dangers.
This campaign was particularly aimed at women wearing heels while drunk and people carrying luggage or running for trains.
In 2011-12 there were almost 1,500 slips and trips at Network Rail's stations.
The rail infrastructure company runs stations including Birmingham New Street, Edinburgh Waverley, Glasgow Central, Liverpool Lime Street, Manchester Piccadilly plus 11 in London.
