Website to list traffic incidents near schools

30 August 2013 Last updated at 07:26 BST

More than 1000 children every month are being injured on roads around British schools, figures show.

As many as 37% of local school areas had at least one child casualty every year from 2006 to 2011, the study from Axa Car Insurance and research body Road Safety Analysis showed.

Now parents and teachers will be able to see how safe the roads are near them, via a website showing how many road traffic incidents there have been within 500 metres of every school.

Sarah Campbell reports.
