Lord Judge calls for changes to child witnesses in court

22 November 2013 Last updated at 18:13 GMT

Children should no longer need to be in court in person to give evidence in most cases, the recently retired Lord Chief Justice has told the BBC.

In an interview with BBC legal affairs correspondent Clive Coleman for Radio 4's World at One, Lord Judge said cross-examination could be done through pre-trial video links or recordings instead of face to face.

His comments followed criticism of the cross-examination of child victims in a series of high-profile cases.
