A man from Leicestershire who died rescuing his two sons from strong currents at an Australian beauty spot has been named by police.

Andrew Priestley, 44, from Market Harborough, died in hospital after he got into difficulty at Burrill Beach in Milton, New South Wales.

It is believed he may have suffered a heart attack. Police said his sons were not injured.

A UK Foreign Office spokesman said the family was receiving consular support.

New South Wales Police Force said emergency services found Mr Priestley unconscious after responding to a call to the beach.

"Officers from Shoalhaven local area command attended and were told the man, a British tourist, got into difficulty after attempting to rescue his two sons who were caught in a rip," the force said in a statement.
