A former Kent Labour candidate in this year's general election has appeared in court to deny drink-driving.

Kathryn Smith, 50, of Welling, south-east London, represented Labour in the Gravesham constituency on 6 May.

Mrs Smith, a former leader and deputy mayor of Bexley, entered a not guilty plea at Dartford Magistrates Court.

She was charged with drink-driving after a crash in University Way, Dartford on 26 April. A case management hearing will take place on 5 August.
