Biker dies in collision with car in County Durham

A motorcyclist has died in a collision in County Durham.

James Boyd, 35, of Leighton Terrace in Hartlepool, was pronounced dead at the scene on the B1280 at South Wingate, near Peterlee on Monday evening.

The father-of-two's Yamaha motorcycle was involved in a collision with a Ford Focus.

The driver of the car, a 35-year-old local woman, was taken to North Tees Hospital and treated for shock and whiplash injuries.

A Durham police spokesman appealed for any witnesses to the crash at 1900 BST to come forward.
