A man who was arrested after a Teesside mother and her daughter were killed in a crash on the A1 has died.

Joanne Richardson, 40, and her daughter Mya, six, of Billingham, died when their car collided with another travelling the wrong way in Newcastle.

A 61-year-old man from Blyth was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released on bail after the crash in August.

Northumbria Police said the man died from ill health.

Mrs Richardson's husband Ian, 37, and baby daughter Ava survived the crash.

The family had been travelling back from a weekend in Dundee for the wedding of Mr Richardson's brother Simon, where Mya had been chief bridesmaid.
