Thames Valley & Chiltern Air Ambulance extends missions

An air ambulance, which has helped to save hundreds of lives, hopes to extend its operating hours in 2011.

Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance said it had been able to answer 66 more emergency calls in the summer thanks to its supporters.

Between July and November it had an extended daily service of 12 hours, an increase of two hours.

The charity said it would be on call an extra two hours a day during the winter - a total of 10 hours a day.

The service operates throughout Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

Pat Conafray, head of fundraising, said: "We are working hard to ensure we continue to provide the extended hours throughout 2011 and onwards.

"We are of course extremely grateful to all our supporters, without whom we would not be able to continue operating."
