Darlington sewers to get £700,000 upgrade
Sewers in a County Durham town are to get a £700,000 upgrade to prevent flooding.
Northumbrian Water said the work will take six months and will involve replacing 350m of pipe in Darlington.
The upgrade will help to protect properties in Teal Road and will begin on 17 January.
Graham Watson, spokesman for Northumbrian Water, said workers would try to keep disruption to a minimum.
He said: "We appreciate the distress that flooding causes customers.
"Over the next five years we intend to invest more than £120m to reduce this risk.
"In times of extremely heavy rainfall the sewerage network in this area has struggled to cope with the quantity of storm water."
