Two men have been jailed for killing a man in an attack in a County Durham street.

Father-of-two Barry Aunger, 45, of St Andrews Road, Spennymoor, was found with head injuries in Tees Crescent in the town in July and died in hospital.

Dean Blenkinsopp, 21, and David Hughes, 29, pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Blenkinsopp, of Tees Crescent, was jailed for five years and Hughes, of Lilburne Crescent, Newton Aycliffe, for four-and-a-half years.

They had originally been charged with murder but admitted manslaughter at Teesside Crown Court.

The case against a third man was dropped in January due to insufficient evidence.

Det Supt Neil Malkin, of Durham Police, said: "This was a needless death which happened because a family argument got out of control, and should serve as a warning about the dangers of domestic disputes escalating into violence.

"It is right that those involved have been sentenced for manslaughter today."
