Record interest in Bishop Auckland Food festival

One of the North East's largest food festivals is expecting to attract a record number of exhibitors, council bosses have said.

A total of 128 exhibitors have already signed up for the annual Bishop Auckland Food Festival at Auckland Castle on 16 April.

Almost 30,000 people attended the event last year, with organisers expecting a similar number of visitors this year.

Durham County Council said it had been "overwhelmed" by the level of interest.

Beryl Anderson, the council's events officer, said: "We have been overwhelmed with the response we have received from people wanting to take part in the festival.

"Each year, we seem to attract more visitors and, judging by the amount of interest so far, this year looks set to be no different."
