A woman found dead in her flat in Darlington had been strangled and stabbed, it has emerged.

Police began a murder investigation after the body of 40-year-old Lea Holiday, of Outram Street, was discovered on Monday evening.

A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, Durham Police said.

Detectives said Ms Holiday had "died a violent death in her own home" and appealed for information.

A post-mortem examination carried out at Darlington Memorial Hospital revealed she had been both strangled and stabbed.
