More lights to go off on M5 motorway in Worcestershire

Overhead lights on part of the M5 motorway in Worcestershire are to be switched off for five hours at night from midnight on Wednesday.

The Highways Agency said it will happen between junction 4a near Bromsgrove and junction six by Worcester.

It extends a current eight-mile stretch between junctions two and four in the West Midlands which was introduced last month.

The plan aims to reduce carbon emissions and light pollution.

That stretch of the motorway has a good safety record between those times, a spokesman said.

The Highways Agency's Regional Control Centres can override the switch-off mechanism should the need arise and consideration will be given to poor weather conditions.
