Masked men target wrong Peterlee house

Three men who forced their way into a house and threatened a retired couple got the wrong address, police said.

The masked trio knocked on the door of the house in Peterlee, County Durham, on Tuesday night asking to be let in.

But when the couple, aged 74 and 65, refused they forced their way in, brandishing a knife and demanding to know where the "green" was.

They left shortly saying they had made a mistake. Durham Police believe it was a drug-related incident.

Det Insp Cliff Down said: "When the couple said they had no idea what the man was talking about, the intruder indicated there must have been a mistake and he left with his two accomplices.

"This incident has obviously left the couple extremely upset and distressed.

"It would appear the intruders have targeted the house by mistake and we believe this may be drugs-related."
