Family targeted in racially motivated arson attack

A flaming bunch of rags were pushed through the door of a family home in Warrington in a racially motivated arson attack, police said.

The incident occurred at a house on Valiant Close in the Padgate area at about 1045 GMT on Wednesday.

A couple and their four children were inside but a neighbour spotted the fire and it was put out before it took hold.

Det Sgt Gordon Wilson said: "The consequences of such reckless action could have been much more severe.

"Fortunately no-one was injured."

"Extra patrols are in the area and we are speaking to the local community, but I am keen to speak to anyone that may have information about the incident," he said.
