Two arrested over violent Banstead carjacking

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of a violent carjacking in Surrey.

A 38-year-old woman was pulled out of her vehicle and punched in the head in Sandersfield Road, Banstead, on 11 January. She was not seriously hurt.

The two suspects, aged 18 and 20 and from New Cross and Croydon in south London, were questioned by detectives on suspicion of robbery.

They have been released on bail until 19 April pending further inquiries.

Officers believe the incident in Banstead was "unplanned", with the robbers needing transport home.

Both the attackers wore hooded tops with bandanas covering their faces and drove off towards Harbourfield Road.

Police said one of the two robbers displayed "gratuitous violence".
