Five more people are being questioned by detectives on suspicion of murdering a businessman on his Sussex farm.

Sussex Police said a 51-year-old man from Robertsbridge was arrested while four men from Kent, aged 22, 29, 32 and 39, had been re-arrested.

Mr Gardner was killed last October after apparently disturbing intruders at his farm near Robertsbridge.

A 17-year-old boy arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of murder has been released on bail until 8 April.

Multiple injuries

Two other Kent men, a 56-year-old man from Sandhurst and a 41-year-old from Ashford, remain in custody after being re-arrested on Tuesday.

Police believe Mr Gardner, 53, was attacked when he disturbed intruders at Bush Barn Farm, near Robertsbridge, in the early hours of 11 October.

A post-mortem examination found Mr Gardner, who ran an agricultural and car repair business, suffered multiple injuries.

A total of 18 people have been arrested or re-arrested by detectives in connection with the inquiry.

One of those held, a 31-year-old woman from Ashford, has been told she faces no further action.
