Tatsfield fire destroys motorbike warehouse

A motorbike warehouse in Surrey has partially collapsed after a fire ripped through the building.

About 75 firefighters from Surrey, Kent and London tackled the blaze at Waylands Farm, Tatsfield, which also affected a residential property.

Smoke from the fire, which started at about 1900 BST on Sunday, was visible over a large area on the Kent and Surrey border.

Fire station manager Mark Barrett said it caused significant damage.

Steel sheeting

The blaze took six hours to put out and firefighters remained on the scene on Monday morning to damp down the building.

"There is a lot of steel sheeting, with hot areas underneath, and until we can move it out of [the] way, [we] won't be able to completely damp down the area," said Mr Barrett.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the blaze, but Mr Barrett said there was no reason to suspect suspicious circumstances.

Roads were closed while investigators were on the scene but have now reopened.
