Court escape bid man found hanged in cell while on remand
A prisoner who attempted to escape from a Norfolk court when he first appeared on a burglary charge was found hanged in his cell, it has been revealed.
Simon King, 30, from Thetford, wrestled with security guards in the dock of Norwich Crown Court.
He was due to appear again on Monday but Nicholas Cotter, prosecuting, told the court that he had hanged himself while on remand at Chelmsford in Essex.
A Prison Service spokesman said Mr King was found at HMP Chelmsford on 9 May.
A statement said: "Staff attempted CPR and paramedics attended but he was pronounced dead.
"As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation."
