Drugs worth £1.3m seized in Essex and Hertfordshire

Two men have been charged with drug offences after police found cannabis and cocaine worth £1.3m in raids in Essex and Hertfordshire.

Officers seized 200kg (441lbs) of cannabis resin, 93kg (205lbs) of herbal cannabis and 0.5kg (1lb) of cocaine at Waltham Abbey and Broxbourne.

The raids were carried out by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.

The men were held in custody to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

They are Simon Newman, 46 of Tenpenny Hill, Thorrington, near Colchester and David Cooper, 27, of Hendon Close, Clacton.

Both are charged with possessing cocaine with intent to supply, possessing cannabis resin with intent to supply and possessing herbal cannabis with intent to supply.

The raids were were carried out after two men in a van were stopped in Waltham Abbey on Friday.
