The jury in the trial of Levi Bellfield, who is accused of abducting and murdering Milly Dowler, has retired to consider its verdict.

Thirteen-year-old Milly vanished in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, as she walked home from school in March 2002.

Her body was found in Yateley Heath, in Hampshire, six months later.

Bellfield, 43, a former wheelclamper and bouncer, denies the murder and kidnap of Milly and the attempted kidnap of 11-year-old Rachel Cowles.

Jurors were later sent home for the day and will resume their deliberations on Thursday.
