Man jailed for £50,000 Bluewater jewellery store raid

A man who stole £50,000 worth of jewellery during a raid at Kent's Bluewater shopping centre has been jailed for five years.

David Mays, 29, of Chessington Avenue, Bexleyheath, south London, was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court after admitting aggravated burglary.

Kent Police said he was part of a gang that used sledgehammers to smash their way into a Goldsmiths store on 28 June.

They threatened a security guard before stealing the jewellery.

The force said Mays was arrested shortly after the raid and three other suspects remained at large.

The gang's vehicle and a quantity of jewellery was recovered by officers in the Joydens Wood area of Dartford.
